Recently released stats from the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin show that 74% of area construction companies had difficulty hiring this past
year. That’s up from 59% in 2016. These companies have indicated that not enough applicants, lack of work experience, lack of technical skills and lack of qualifications are the top four reasons behind their difficulty hiring. See the top positions hired and the top competencies sought below:

More stats are available on our Construction Sector Workforce Insights 2018. The Workforce Planning Board is working with local industry representation on more detailed research into employment in the industry.

The Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin invites you to discuss how low carbon legislation and building techniques will impact your workforce in the next 2-5 years. Your input will be used to find new ways to promote construction careers and skills training to youth aged 15-24 including indigenous youth and young women.
