Agriculture and food are major contributors to our economy, supporting one in every nine jobs and contributing nearly $51.4 billion to Ontario’s GDP each year.
Locally, in Waterloo Wellington Dufferin and nearby communities, the sector is facing workforce challenges that need local attention:
Similar workforce challenges are also being seen in the Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth areas, leading to a partnership on this work between the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin and the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.
Together, we will look at agricultural workforce opportunities and challenges across our regions. The project will use local data and community input to better understand:
The final report will share clear findings that can support local planning, employer conversations, and future action. Once complete, the report will be posted on our website and shared with community partners. This work will help inform practical next steps to support a strong and resilient agricultural workforce.
