The Dufferin Workforce Development Committee continues its collaborative approach to support, grow and advocate for a community of great employees and great businesses. Since late 2016 the committee has been taking steps to overcome issues of employee recruitment and retainment and has worked in unison with the area labour market plan and the newly created economic development strategies of both the Town of Orangeville and Dufferin County. Already this group has supported the Town of Orangeville’s organization of job fairs that have been attended by over 1,000 job seekers. They have also worked with the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin on the gathering of data through their EmployerOne Survey. This survey allows businesses to share important information about hiring challenges and specific workforce needs. The 2018 survey represented 2,223 employees in Dufferin County.
The feedback this group has received from public consultations and the EmployerOne survey will continue to support the economic development of Dufferin County through continued action by the committee in 2018. In the Fall of 2018 the committee will roll out a business supports expo that will run in conjunction with the Town of Orangeville’s Economic Outlook Breakfast. The resources being showcased at this event will cater to the specific needs outlined by area businesses in the committee’s public consultations and other input sessions. This expo will be a first of its kind and will provide business resources requested most by Dufferin County employers.
“The County of Dufferin values it’s relationship with the Dufferin Workforce Development Committee as it is a key forum for coordination on skills and workforce issues and initiatives. As stated in the County’s Economic Development Strategic Plan, the County’s participation in the DWDC is central to its economic development role and to ensuring a collaborative County-wide approach.” Said Karisa Downey, Economic Development Officer with the County of Dufferin
